A total of 200 runners from eastern China’s city of Ningbo celebrated the coming Year of the Dog on Saturday by turning their running route into art: an image of a puppy dog.

Runners created such creative images by recording their running routes with GPS technology.

The running activity was initiated by an engineer named Wen Linbo, who is also a running enthusiast, and it covered a length of 32 kilometers.

“Running has always been considered dull sport, and route art is one way to excite the runners,” Wen explained.

“I hope every participant can have a special memory of the New Year by joining the activity,” he said.

Okay novel idea, I guess. I hope we are going to see some actual art work depicting the new year from the hands of some talented Chinese artists.

Chinese people are always good at make lowly localized changes of good things, like dancing by the roadside, riding a bike in skirt or dress, taking western cuisine with chopsticks, wearing suits with rubber working shoes or soldier cap, cheering at tennis match as if it is a football match, making phone call during concerts, using Chinglish, making an international marathon a costume role-playing party, to name just a few. So it is not surprised to see the running for celebrating new year this way.
