Olyalya, an international student from Ukraine, could not help but give a big thumbs-up to China’s high-speed trains, as she took the train G262 from Hefei to Bengbu in Anhui Province on Feb. 8. The train attendant also taught her how to order meals online and pay via Alipay.

What is this? Since when do the private opinions of travelers about a train make newspaper news?

Why not start a thread about how Guo Minhai was kidnapped by Chinese "police" from a train to a police detention cell?

China's modernization is measured in real goods and real services that the public can enjoy.  High end entertainment and fancy hotels are also readily available, at an affordable price too.  Some folks are unhappy when the Chinese people and foreign tourists are able to enjoy the conveniences and comforts of modern life.  When looking at a panoramic fresco, they prefer to notice the fly that landed on one of its painted trees.  These perpetually unhappy people should think about seeing an English-speaking psychiatrist in Shanghai or Beijing.  Depression is a disease, not a point of view.

You are under the wrong impression. I do not feel unhappy or see a fly in the panoramic view. I simply feel the Chinese are misappropriating someone else's laurels. The world has known vibration-free train travel for decades; it is new in China and its arrival here owes to the designers and engineers in Japan and Europe.

And why warm up a meal that was cooked years ago? Is this because of some inexplicable shortage of fresh food?
