There's more misery ahead for Huawei, which just saw AT&T pull out of a deal to carry its first smartphone, and fellow Chinese tech firm ZTE.

The duo are well known for their growing smartphone businesses worldwide, but it is their more established telecom networking and equipment units that are again under fire in Washington. A new bill introduced to Congress proposes a ban preventing branches of the U.S. government from working with service providers that use any equipment from either company for security reasons.

Only the NSA, CIA, and FBI are allowed to spy on American citizens I guess.

If capitalism promotes innovation and creativity then why aren't scientists and artists the richest people in a capitalist nation?

Some time ago a prominent Japanese economist referred to US trade policy as a ''lazy turtle who when failing\threatened sticks his head back into a shell.'' A very accurate description at the time. The turtle is decadent and in its death throes now.

The US government is afraid that Huawei might eat Apple’s lunch. Besides, Huawei actually makes Android phones for Google which is marketed under the “Nexus” brand and also uses Google’s Android OS for its own Android phones marketed under the “Mate” brand.

Huawei is a hardware not a software vendor. Nor is it an Internet company like Google that collects personal data from users of its Android OS. If any company is collecting personal data, it’s Google not Huawei.

This thread is about the decision of the US government to ban Huawei’s smartphones from its offices not about the Chinese government. Huawei can’t do any kind of surveillance because it’s a hardware vendor that uses Android OS software from Google. Hardware vendors don’t collect personal data; it’s software vendors such as Google, Microsoft, etc. that do.
