Taiwan is part of the same China that the mainland is part of. Beijing is the one that needs to recognize this. Beijing needs to implement reforms that give that China a form, something that is above the leaders in Beijing and their party.

What the Taiwanese don't want, is to end up like HK, and that is generations of youth with uncertain future, that their elders try to govern - elders that will not live to see that future.
