If schools are intended to prepare students for their lives, then they should be a good approximation of real life, which includes interaction with the opposite sex.

Single gender schools create gender disparity in the minds of students from a young age and do not foster socialisation skills. This could hinder students' ability to form proper relationships in adulthood. Such segregation could also be considered discriminatory and could give an impression of gender superiority.

Gender based schools will not benefit students in the long run. Students are exposed to only one world where everyone is the same and has the same points of view.

Mixed-gender schools open students to a greater variety of people, making them more prepared for the future.

We need to break down barriers of gender and not promote them.

Social interaction is part of a healthy lifestyle and researchers have found that separation hinders social development.

That is an opponent´s belief and arguments but they can all be countered by arguments that state the opposite. Gender-based schools remove distraction from classrooms and teachers no longer need to give boys special favourable attention (as is the case in mixed-gender schools all over China).

It is how parents raise their sons and daughters that is questionable, not the schools that segregate the genders in order to to do away with gender biases.

After all, the sad truth is that Chinese people treat boys differently from girls. In classrooms you quickly notice the effects.

I would prefer to have the system and the society change , so that distractions from classrooms and preference to boys could be removed while having mixed-gender classes.

It doesn't matter if this change happens slowly, but separating the genders will only make it impossible. The situation in Chinese schools (to best of my knowledge) is not so bad, that an urgent temporary measure of segregation is needed to calm it, while rebuilding the system to combine the classes later on again.

Interacting with opposite sex becomes a necessity in higher education, or work life at the latest, and it would be better if children could learn it in their earlier life and not jump into it later, when they have much more at their hands anyway.

Another reason why I dislike the idea of single-sex schools is that in a society like China, where boys are favoured, the boys schools would surely attract better teachers than the girls schools would - which would further discount the girls future in comparison to boys.

I don't know what people mean when they say "interacting with members of the opposite gender in the classroom". Honestly, there is hardly any interaction there. Boys keep among boys and girls stay with girls. You can see that in every Chinese classroom (and no doubt many classrooms all over the world).

Segregating the genders in China is a NEW concept being discussed and having been adopted in a few choice schools especially in Shanghai. The reason usually advanced is that boys remain underachievers and girls overachievers  If you look at pupil scores you will soon see that girls outperform boys in most subjects. The parents of boys then complain that their sons were not supported adequately. But in most cases it is the parents who fail to exert the same kind of strict discipline on their son that they might exert on their daughters.

I have often noticed that boys gather together and often ignore the lesson while girls pay attention. Boys respond differently to disciplinary actions. They clearly are raised to feel entitled to high scores without necessarily earning them in an honest way.

You have me baffled:

Another reason why I dislike the idea of single-sex schools is that in a society like China, where boys are favoured, the boys schools would surely attract better teachers than the girls schools would - which would further discount the girls future in comparison to boys.

Why would boys schools attract better teaches than girls schools?
