"A recent survey found most foreign teachers working at English training institutions in China do not have the required qualification certificates, the Beijing News reported on Nov. 22."

Don't need a survey to tell us so; we already knew that long ago, and we even brought it up to Forum for discussion!

"claiming that foreign teachers from English-speaking countries have purer accents than those from home and other countries"

What they mean is that those teachers have Western, especially American, accent which they are obsessed with, mistaking American accent for good English!!

"Some foreign teachers only have a study or tourist visa rather than a work visa,..."

Just like I pointed out numerous times in Forum!  So this latest survey is a bit late, but better late than never;  it adds to the voice clamouring for a long time for foreign teachers to be strictly vetted for proper qualifications!

Yes, you point out what you believe to be correct but your beliefs are not exactly supported by facts. Haven`t you noticed that this article is many years old? It is just sour grapes being served as fresh strawberries but at the wrong time. The strawberries taste rotten.

It isn’t only private schools which employ unqualified teachers and / or teachers working illegally.  Many Beijing kindergartens run by the government, including the most famous ones, illegally employ unqualified English teachers.  Many public primary and high schools do also.

Local authorities, including the police, do nothing when they are notified of the issue.
