My admiration for President Xi is a little decreased by this egotism. I prefer more modest leaders.  ...

I agree with your post.
(his ego is much less than the US president Trump)

What concerns me is the "hard line" when it comes to decent.
I understand there are (western) forces at work against them.
But.....
"sincere" decent is constructive and should be addressed, which would build a better party and government.
While insincere decent is based on bias or worse yet....
BOUGHT!
China and the CPC are strong enough to deal with and to determine what is "sincere".
(not hard to do)

Is Xi a good thing or a bad thing for China?
China's growth a good thing or bad thing?

Is Xi a good thing or a bad thing for China? Most likely bad, but time will tell.
He is on the path to be an autocrat, and autocrat leaders typically make choices based on their ideas and judgments and rarely accept advice from followers.
So if you don't want a say in your countries future he is your man.

China's growth a good thing or bad thing? I personally think it is a good thing if everyone benefits, unlike many countries.

He is on the pat ...

There is nothing wrong having a "good" leader for the long term.
In my view, what he has done so far has made China better.
His corruption crack down is the biggest in China history.
Lifting millions out of poverty, is a good thing.
He is not pounding the "drums of war", like other western leaders.

China will NEVER come close to having a "Mao like" leader in the future.

China a country with a culture that does not respect the law a country of criminals

That is a big statement.

What is this based on?
Such a country would ALWAYS be in chaos and strife.
I must say in fairness...
The worst people I have ever met, were in China.
(Bold face lies to your face, stealing)
On the other hand....
The "best" people I have ever met, were in China.
(Giving out of no where, kindness for a stranger)
So for me, it is a country of "extremes", the very good and very bad.

It's a fact and you know it South China Sea, the land grab in Antartica and the theft of intellectual property

It's a fact and you know it South China Sea, the land grab in Antartica and the theft of intellect ...

The China sea is their coast line back door.
The way I see it, they have a right to protect that.
Its like....
America protects its coast line and would not permit another foreign power to claim anything close.
This coast has always been the starting point for invasion and given the history of that, they are taking steps to make sure that never happens again.

But your point is a "government" policy, not a cultural one.
How is Chinese culture a breeding ground for "criminals"?
