Outside of the USA, everybody uses smartphones -- not PCs -- to access the Internet. But Intel failed miserably in its mobile and wireless business. In the PC industry, nobody buys servers anymore because everybody uses the cloud. That's why "PCs are going the way of the dinosaurs", according to Gartner and IDC. Intel was the "King of the Hill" but the PC has been going downhill ever since the smartphone arrived.

Huawei is the world's leader in 4G/5G telecommunications.
Baidu is the world's leader in AI for self-driving cars.
Xiaomi is a marketing not a technology company.

No need to steal technology from U.S. companies if Chinese companies are already the world's leaders in their fields.

ummm ... no. Huawei and Baidu are "Global Leaders", not "The world leader". Global leader means they are among the top leaders. They are not THE leaders. Right now the two TOP leaders are Ford and GM for AI in self-driving vehicles.
It's hard to win an argument with a smart person. It's damned near impossible to win an argument with a stupid person.

Some poster was claiming that Huawei, Xiaomi and Baidu copies from US companies.

Here's my response:

Huawei competes against Nokia and Ericsson in 4G/5G.
Huawei competes against Cisco in Internet networks.
Huawei competes against Samsung in Android smartphones.
Huawei partnered with Google to manufacture its Nexus 6P Android smartphone line.

There are ZERO US companies in 4G/5G telecommunications because:
1). Motorola went out of business
2). Lucent merged with Alcatel
3). Cisco doesn't do 4G/5G.
4). Apple doesn't do 4G/5G.
5). Intel lost the 4G race with its failed WiMAX bid.

Xiaomi is a marketing not a technology company selling mostly to China and Asia but not to the USA.

Baidu is already commercializing its Apollo "open-source AI platform" for self-driving cars and is ahead of Waymo, Google's spinoff for its R&D in self-driving cars.

In natural language processing, Baidu's AI technology supports the CHINESE language while Google's AI technology supports the ENGLISH language, the difference being that CHINESE is a pictographic language requiring handwriting recognition while ENGLISH is an alphabetic language requiring only keyboard input. Both languages also require speech recognition for voice input but differs in their tonality, syntax, grammar, etc.

Baidu serves China but not the USA while Google serves the USA but not China.

If Chinese companies such as Huawei, Xiaomi and Baidu hardly compete against US companies, why should they copy them?

i dont think baidu and alibaba are going to die anytime soon. they dont really have many competitors, just like gugle, and paypal/ebay. but you have a good point. china needs to move away from nvidia and do its own thing. i also hate the monopoly of realtek, and atheros. its sad when chinese motherboards use them. china also needs its own bios

I agree. China needs its own AI chips/hardware platform. But for now NVDIA is the world's leader in AI hardware.

The danger of doing that will be Nvidia would so entrenched in Chinese products that later domestic chips will not see the day light.

China better off don't use Nvidia similar to its supercomputer don't use Intel processor even thought it's more powerful than loongson or shenwei.
China is happy being with self sufficiency than
