Its ok to be at ground level for China. The only way is up from there. Just keep on striving patiently and do your best. Competition is good but being xenophobic over it like isn't good.

The manner of comparison is important. It doesn't mean what another person has, you must have. This isn't the right way to compare. The right way to compare is understanding how you think and understanding how others think, evaluate what you need and what others need, then compare both the positives and negatives in those thoughts and study why the needs are the same or are different, all done without being overly emotion about it.

Whether the one in front or the one at the back, both will sweat for different reasons. So don't be too emotional or egoistic over it. Just strive the right way and the results will come.

I am none too impressed by this display of innovation-mindedness. There is not a single hardware ...

Yes, "salesmanship" and 'packaging';  they are so exceptionally good at packaging to the point of deception, four very ordinary pieces of mooncakes packed in elaborate gift boxes can sell for very high price!  And Chinese consumers love them, they even queue up for them!

I agree with you that the question is irrelevant because the US market is different from the Chinese market.

For example, Amazon is number one in the USA but is way behind Alibaba in China. The reason is that Amazon is an e-commerce retailer while Alibaba is an e-commerce platform. Amazon owns warehouses, sells merchandise, ships products and competes against online retailers while Alibaba does not. Instead, Alibaba supports Chinese SMEs to sell their merchandise online using its e-commerce platform.

Amazon's business model is to kill off SMEs not help them.

What's the point of keep arguing who will be World No. One - China or the U.S.?...  How big the point will be?...  It's bit a meaningless on-going argument right?  Anybody could be world no. one superpower if you wish to without emphasizing it again and again to the rest of the world...

You don't have to be fully recognized by all as World No. One.  Just work hard and make continuous improvements.  Without full recognition then China stops making greater progresses?  Don't be ridiculous...

One more thing:

Tencent makes most of its money from online gaming where it sells virtual goods while Facebook earns most of its revenues from advertising. Tencent's WeChat/Weixin is a mobile internet platform while Facebook is a social media network. Both are in the mobile internet industry, but their business models are completely different from each other.

China is already the world leader in high-speed rail and should adopt electric bicycles/tricycles/vehicles plus ride-sharing as a way to reduce oil dependency and allevaite traffic congestion. For China to copy the gas-guzzling car culture and fossil fuel economy of the USA is extremely harmful to China. Instead, China should be building solar/wind-powered electric charging stations and the 5G network infrastructure for traffic management of the next-generation of semi- and fully autonomous electric vehicles.
