I am keenly interested in positive news, in achievements made by Chinese or by China, but it see ...
take credit and are proud for all the least impressive things and reasons

That, but when you multiply it by the population that China has, even a small and trivial thing can appear as mega success.

Hmmm... that's an interesting summary of the state of the art in mobile internet and e-commerce. But there's a lot more that you missed: drones, robotics, driverless cars, 5G, electric vehicles, solar panels, wind turbines, biotech, high-speed rail, etc. where Chinese companies have taken the leading position in the world of new technology and in old-fashioned technology as well such as coal-fired power plants, nuclear energy, etc.

The biggest effect of the rise of the mobile internet and e-commerce is to foster domestic consumption as a driver for economic growth. That would in turn create the economic basis for the industrial development of technology-based and knowledge-intensive services industries in China.

Is China leading in ANY of the following fields???

Drones? I don't think so although I know that a Shenzhen-based drone maker is the world's leader by sales volume. Bravo to that company - but it has no technological lead.

High-speed rail? No. CHina is not a leader. It is an also-ran. It only has built the world's longest high-speed rail network. Big deal - it is the world's most populous turf. It has a lot of catching up to do if it wants to bring railways to as many people per square kilometer as Germany or even the U.S.A.

Driverless cars? I was just in Europe and have seen driverless buses. They are made by a German manufacturer. There also is a French brand. Driberless trains have been known in Singapore and many European cities for up to 20 years.

Robotics? China is still buying components from European and Japanese makers. ABB of Switzerland, Kuka of Germany have the Japanese companies. CHina is at a very basic level. It is learning from its betters and buying their best companies - Kuka for example was bought by Midea. This was one reason why the German minister Gabriel has made certain remarks that unnerved the Chinese ruling clique.

I have always thought that China is a huge underachiever what with its giant domestic market that had to be developed with the help of the Soviets and the West. China could have been expected to come up with much more technological breakthroughs in the past, yet it remained a poorhouse for centuries.
