(BBC) Young people in Beijing convicted of bullying can now be given sentences involving hard labour, in a move that has raised eyebrows on popular microblog Sina Weibo.

Fourteen girls aged 15 to 17 are currently involved in the five-to-seven day trial programme which began on Monday. One student was given a sentence of one year and 10 months.

During the programme, young offenders also take part in a gruelling course involving military training, after which schools assess whether they are fit to return to their studies or they should be expelled.

The 14 students were handed a tough sentence after being caught bullying

Excellent idea
if you want something in life get off your backside, and do it yourself!! don't rely on others to do it for you

All must support this harsh measure!  Let's hope it is adopted throughout China.  There is no room for bullying.  The blame falls squarely on over-indulgent Chinese parents who bring up their children as little emperors, who can't tell right from wrong!
