A big naval exercise is underway in the Indian Ocean and USA, Japan and India made it quite clear, in no unmistakable terms, that China is the intended target.

The exercise involved the three carrirers USS Nimitz, INS Vikramaditya and JS Izumo plus a host of destroyers and frigates from all 3 countries.

Japan and India will be upgrading facilities on the strategic Nicobar and Andaman Islands, northwest of the Strait of Malaca and an important chokepoint. China imports over 60% of its crude from the Middle East, and the tankers pass through the Straint of Malaca.

For now, India will also be stationing warships at the Malaca Strait to increase its "situational awareness", and not to strangle the PRC economy.

I doubt very much that China would let itself be choked to death economically by USA, Japan and India.  The sabre rattling continues. Should be interesting to see how China reacts to this.

Quotea from various sources...
Though India’s Navy is dwarfed by China’s, India holds a strategic advantage in the Andaman and Nicobar archipelago, which stretches 470 miles to the northwest of the Strait of Malacca, a “choke point” connecting the South China Sea to the Indian Ocean.

This position, which could be used to put pressure on Chinese supply lines, is an increasing focus of cooperation between India, the United States and Japan. Monday’s China Daily, an English-language government newspaper, referred apprehensively to the maritime exercises in an editorial, noting that the Indian Ocean is one of China’s main conduits for trade and oil imports.

Military officials say the drills involving the U.S. carrier USS Nimitz, India's lone carrier Vikramaditya and Japan's biggest warship, the helicopter carrier Izumo, are aimed at helping to maintain a balance of power in the Asia-Pacific against the rising weight of China
