If a company gives away $1 billion then it is a reduction of profits that could otherwise be paid  ...

that is the problem.....
we are putting ourselves above everything else (selfish).
it doesn't matter who or how many people suffer for the profits of a company.

There is a "greater good" which is more than just you and I.and it has NOTHING to do with dollars and cents.

If people/organisations cannot make a decent profit out of an investment then they either don't invest or they place their money in perceived safe havens such as gold. Without investment then the economy dries up and there are no jobs except perhaps in the gold industry.

It's not a question of being selfish. I am retired and my income is provided by dividends on investments and a pension fun. In turn my pension is funded by profits from investments. If I simply put aside all my excess money into a bank and wait for my retirement then the bank will take that money and invest it on their behalf. If I am lucky then they might pay me a small percentage of their profits.

But if people don't have a reason to put surplus money into banks, pension funds and other forms of investment then no one will lend you money to buy a house, a car etc and any money that you accumulate during your lifetime will slowly depreciate so that when you retire you will end up with enough money that will probably last no more than 2 years.

We need capitalism. But what we also need is a fairer way of distributing the profits to ensure that the gap between rich and poor is reduced to more acceptable levels without destroying investment.

If you got any ideas how to make capitalism more "fair", I'm all ears.

To me this system breeds the worst in human behavior.
Think about the best things in life...
Friendship
Family
Love
Can you put a "price" on such things?

Now think of the worse things in life.....
Crime
Corruption
Does money have anything to do with this?

If one government increases taxation, puts limits on the value of assets an individual/company can own or whatever then they simply move to a new country where the arrangements are more favourable. If you have a revolution and execute all the entrepreneurs then a new group of entrepreneurs springs up to fill the vacuum. Those dishing out tax deals and contracts etc are commonly beneficiaries, directly or indirectly, and replacing the government makes little difference to the overall scheme of things. If  the political party in power passes laws that benefit the common man then at the next election they are likely to be replaced by an opposition party who passes laws that benefit trade and industry because the country has been spending money that it hasn't earned and there is roaring inflation. If every business enterprise is nationalised then you end up with failed business models that cannot compete with other countries and even then there will be those running the companies and government who reward themselves more than the ordinary workers.

You don't even know what "democracy" or "democratic" means. To be a Socialist does not mean you don't want democracy. If you really knew what you are discussing here you would actually see my point: after all, every "socialist" polity after WW II proclaimed itself a "people's DEMOCRATIC republic"...

In my personal view, the rulers of said "people's republics" have been the worst liars during the period their so-called "people's republics" existed.

That is a most subjective, unscientific way to judge things; it is RELATIVISM of the worst kind.

the poster stated that "capitalism was natural".
I disagree

You did not have the guts to own up and say that nor is socialism  "natural"...
