(China Plus) Beijing's environmental protection authorities have launched a new campaign, "Driving one day less for the week."

The program will encourage people to drive less by awarding drivers with Wechat 'red packets' (a digital payment service provided by messaging app Wechat) and e-coupons.

The bonuses will be doubled during heavy pollution days.

According to local authorities, car owners could get a bonus from 0.2 yuan to 0.7 yuan and one 'carbon coin' used to convert coupons, for reducing their driving by 24 hours every week. The premiums for drivers will be based on how many driving hours they cut.

The campaign has been launched to mark National Low-carbon Day, which falls on June 13th. This is part of the week-long national campaign to promote the idea of energy conservation and low-carbon development.

In china,  even though you have money to buy a car but you can't afford to buy a parking place, cause land is much more expensive than other countries.

You should stop paying the salaries of the Beijing Environmental bureau's staff. They are nothing but a liability to the citizens. Such a decadent suggestion - to bribe motorists into not driving their polluting and lethal vehicles!

Why not reward all pedestrians and underground train users with a bonus???

Why should the spoilt and selfish motorists get paid when they cause so much harm to the environment and to all that lives there???
