No, the king of Qin, namely Ying Zheng who then morphed into Qin Shi Huangdi.

Oh. Yeah, I heard Mao was comparing himself to the first emperor of China, and bragged how even the first emperor of China killed less people than he did. Yeah, Chinese civilization has had its share of incompetent rulers, but it's also had a handful of good rulers. I so long for the day for China to truly rise again. And by that, I don't mean statistically number 1 GDP, send people to the moon, or anything of those boring stuff....I wish Chinese civilization could rise again, by which the people would become more spiritually aware, and it would be a more loving and kind society.

I tend to not believe many of the stories that have been passed down, though. For example, I don't believe Empress Dowager Cixi was an evil or an incompetent woman. I think Qing Dynasty's time was up, and no one could hold back destiny. Though she was Manchu, but I read some writings on her personality, and she does sound traditionally Chinese. I don't think she was a saint, but she did the best she could, and she wasn't that bad. I think Qing Dynasty was better than today's China.

Chinese don't read if they can help it, you are right. Theiraversion oreading is in shrp contrast  ...

It's not just Chinese, it's all the Asians. It's just their culture. I wouldn't say one is better than another, because while Asians don't read as much as their western counterparts, but they have something else better in their own cultures to replace that kind of mental activity. It's just a difference in lifestyle. It would be a boring world, if everyone did the same thing everywhere.

That's why you see Asians can't express themselves very well, because they don't like to read, but they do other things better. Life in Asia is better than the west in some ways, just ask the westerners living in Asia. There's a reason for that.

So it's not a black or white issue like what you're trying to suggest. There are many things to knock China for, but this isn't one of them. Especially these days, have you seen how the books are written by the new generation? Poor grammar, poor quality, poor literature. Books basically suck today. What's there to read? So it's not like the Chinese are missing out on anything either.

I've got some posts stuck in the filter. They should get rid of the filtering system. But oh well, it doesn't matter. Because this is not my home, like it is all you people here.

Sorry, it is not all Asians. Japanese for example read quite a bit and I have read a number of enthralling Japanese novels. Indianslike literature too. Iraniansdo (but then again, they are closely related to Europeans although I do not see how this matters: what matters is THE CULTURE. Culture nurtures interests).

Nope. I was in Japan. They do not read like the westerners do. I can read anywhere in a western country, and people don't look at you weird. You try that in Japan, they do stare (and it's not because I look like a weird foreigner, because the Japanese more than once told me I look Japanese.)...

You're arguing when it's obvious you're not that familiar with Asian culture. I'm sure I have more Asian friends than you from all kinds of countries. And I'm Asian. I don't know any one Asian not raised in the west that likes to read. Once a person caught me reading (I was in Asia), so he asked if I was studying for an examination. Heck, I was reading for pleasure. In their minds, such behavior doesn't exist.

The Japanese do like to read manga though. But that's not really reading.

But if you're talking about fiction Japanese writers vs Chinese writers, then I don't know anything about that.

The filtering system is to stop endless spam/porn sites etc.

Believe me without it the forum would at some times be flooded with it, on occasions 100's of threads/posts could appear.
