India to demand MORE immigration as part of post-Brexit trade deal INDIA will demand that the UK opens its doors to more Indian workers in exchange for a lucrative trade deal.
The Prime Minister will travel to visit the leaders of the global economic powerhouse on her first overseas trade trip this week.
Politicians and business leaders have said the number of Visas handed out to Indian nationals will be top of the agenda for the talks as Theresa May tries to secure a post-Brexit agreement.
Patricia Hewitt, chair of the UK India Business Council, said the two countries would be striking a "modern deal" which would have to include an agreement on immigration.
The Indian government is already involved in complex negotiations with the EU over trade which have dragged out for a decade, with the bloc refusing to grant India 50,000 working visas in exchange for trade.
David Cameron promised to double Britain's trade with India within five years but fell short of his target and Britain has also fallen behind other countries who have capitalised on India's continued economic growth.
But Trade Secretary Liam Fox has said that a "working group" has already been created with an Indian delegation.
