I am a 53-year-old American (married to a beautiful Chinese woman) and I can tell you without a doubt that the majority of American news media can NOT be trusted! They are indeed "FAKE" news! If they are reporting on politics, you can especially be wary of their so-called "facts." The only news outlet that you can believe for the majority of the news is Fox News. Trust me when I say this.
And I want to say something very important to the Chinese people. Americans respect and appreciate you. We do not sit over here discussing bad things about China at all. We are just going on about our daily lives, trying to make the best of things. We want happiness and peace for everyone in the world.
Our two governments may have problems between them right now, but it doesn't have to affect the citizens' relationships! We are all one family, and we must allow our governments time to work through any problems that may arise. Like any family, sometimes there are arguments, but we still love each other.
I am so excited to be visiting China again for my fifth time next month. I miss my Chinese family and friends!

I don't think betting this way is illegal; and as long as hundreds of millions get away with gambling in China with impunity I fail to see why the police should come down on a Westerner who bets in the privacy of his apartment with himself. Even if I lose one million zuan in the process, I won't be one fen poorer.

Whatever he is Chinese.
Hail China, Hail Chinese.
My son will be what he feels like and what he wants to be; like his father he may not want to be manipulated by politicians and officials because no officials can be trusted and no officials are unselfishly serving their nation.

If your son takes after you, then there is no hope for him to be open-minded, tolerant, curiouis, ...
You are just jealous that my son will get a high degree of sophistication and cultural competence that you have never attained in the 50-odd years you have rubbed shoulders with Westerners. Plus my son learns several languages from an early age on. This morning he absorbed a French idiom: "Fous-moi la paix!"

Well said. Whatever cultures we come from, although not perfect, we all want peace and prosperity to raise families and have fun with the family. However, there are certain powers that are not happy with people living in peace so they have to tell lies, distort the truth, create or stir up tensions so that people will misunderstand each other and fight. The media is the usual way to do this and there are certain individuals involved too.
