Maybe when Lincoln was giving his speech, he was thinking of China.

How else can you explain that a 1.4 Billion country ruled by a party with (just) 90 million members can result in the fastest quantum leap in economic progress in one generation that has propelled forward the China Dream buoyed by the highest level of optimism recorded by her citizens, in a survey released last month by Ipsos, an internationally independent body?

Some governments of by and for the people don't have to resort to western democracy; they just need to establish some of the many Chinese characteristics of pragmatic action not the nit-picking rhetoric of western humbuggery.

How about cheap and endless labor, and rich west to buy their products? USA also had fast growth when they used African slaves as cheap labor, and there was big market for cotton and other produce.

You would not have had that growth, if in last 30 years you had implemented same regulations (labour rights, environmenal protection, anti-corruption, etc), that you inevitably have to implement in next 30 years.

The party leadership relevant to China's growth was nothing but the whip of a plantation overseer.

Who says that? In so-called "communist" economies workers never had any say in running their collectives. Just ask your grandparents!

If you want to get a whiff of worker participation in running factories, turn your attention to capitalist GERMANY. The factories must allow unions to have a say over whether a company can lay people off or a company can go into bankruptcy. DItto for selling it to investors.
And German workers have shown willingness to make sacrifices in order to save their work places along with the factories themselves.
But whats that to do with running a whole nation? Democracy is about running the affairs of the state. WOrkers in democratic nations won the right to vote. To achieve this, the means test had to be abolished: the means test was a hurdle that only people with a minimum income and ownership could take. After the means test was abolished all adults could vote - although women had to fight a separate struggle to achieve this end too

Abraham Lincoln was born in 1809, and he became the 16th president of the U.S.A. in 1861, one century and a half before you made your post about him, Dee:rie.

Prize question: how many members did the C.P.C. have in those days???

And which economy was the fasytest growing at that time?

No idea why westerners so obssessed with democracy. As we don't see the merits of it. And wot the fak is voting, can I vote to kill someone?
As I saw Americans voted to kill Africans.
