China would not have to occupy Korea.
Let them be as it is (as long there is no US bases there)

Having a united Korea would be a boost to China trade.

Such a deal must be "above board" for all the world to see.
Can't see any other way the US would honor such a deal.

Do you realize that the problem in and with most HKers is that the deal they have with mainland ha ...

China could of rolled in Hong Kong a long time ago.
Who would be able to stop them?

So why would the sky come falling down in 2040?
Once Taiwan comes under China control....
What need would there be to have the Army march in?
Serves no purpose.

If China unifies Korea...
It MUST be free of US bases (no reason to rid North Korea if the US would still be there).

China and UK made that deal when the handover happened. If China had "rolled in" HK, or does that before 2047, you can bet that (at least) UK, EU, and USA would extend the current arms embargo to complete diplomatic and trade embargo. That would be a bigger price for China to pay, than whatever they think they'd achieve from integrating HK to mainland's political system.

That is what is stopping China.

The only realistic development path I see, is that mainland China stays on path of reforms which ultimately make it so good and free country, that HKers would have nothing to lose. One party leadership - fine, as long as it is good one. This was not the case 10 or 20 years ago.

Some concrete things required to happen - allow companies like Facebook or Google to operate in mainland without interference. I'm not saying that HKers fear of losing access to those specific services - it is more about what those services represent - freedom in the society.

If USA would not be allowed to have bases on Korea, I'm sure that they would have even more bases in Japan, and perhaps some SE Asian countries would consider inviting more US troops as well.

I think long term it would be better for China to allow US to have bases in unified Korea, rather than somewhere else.

You clearly do not understand psychology. Life is not about trade only. The Koreans want respect and dignity. This you clearly would deny them. If the U.S.A. is bad for Korea then so is China.
