Countries that treat China as a friend will be treated as a friend, and those who treat China as an enemy will be treated as an enemy. When Duterte went to China to establish friendship with China, China reciprocated with magnanimity. When his Defense Secretary made a volte face over and above his boss' declared wishes, China scrapped its investments, and put them on hold. Reciprocity is the life blood of all true and lasting relationships. Those who demand or act otherwise are only cheating themselves of a true and lasting friendship with China. The more detours they take, the longer it will be for them to arrive at their desired destination.

China has never treated any nation as a "friend", and never will. Friendship expressed towards it by others will inevitably be interpreted as servility. This will be one of China's defining characteristics for a long time since it is not run by the Chinese but by a Chinese clique that is not always friends even with its compatriots.
As for Rodrigo Duterte, it is laughably self-evident that China loves a guy who rolls in the muck to show his submission to imperialist China. China will drop him the moment he deviates from the path the Chinese have conceived for him. Again, as in the case of China too Rodrigo Duterte is not the Philippines. He is at odds with a growing number of Filipinos. Shame on imperialist China for courting a mass murderer.

Your view of China, and its leaders, is simply but unquestionably, racist. However, China will treat you just as you chose to treat China, not racistically, of course, because that would be dehumanizing, but pragmatically, which is sufficient and highly educational.
