China has rolled out a series of guidelines to ensure the well-being of people who had been asked to avoid traveling during the upcoming Spring Festival holiday.

All residents in areas at high risk of COVID-19 shall stay at their current residing localities to prevent spreading the epidemic, said a recent circular released by the general offices of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the State Council.

Travel from medium-risk areas will need permission from the local epidemic prevention and control authorities. Those living in low-risk areas shall be advised to avoid traveling unless necessary, the circular said.

According to the circular, all localities, especially large and medium-sized cities, are asked to guarantee stable supplies of necessities and energy. It demanded smooth logistics and transport services to meet the needs for shopping, recreation, and entertainment of people who stay where they work during the holiday.

Efforts should ensure that those who work during the holiday enjoy due overtime payments and rest under the relevant laws, it added.

The Spring Festival, or the Chinese Lunar New Year, falls on Feb. 12 this year.

China should be more firm on curbing unnecessary travel - apply logical and practical reasons. Chinese should be aware that they are responsible for their own domesitc handling of Covid-19. The continued discipline Chinese impose on itself is vital to continue China's so-far-so-good handling of the Covid-19 virus. Don't do a half baked job. Do it properly all the way until Covid-19 becomes an irrelevant issue. This is one exercise that can become a future case study - so don't waste this golden opportunity. Protect it. Anglo societies will surely hope that China cannot write any good history for the future.

If China wants to step up in being rescognised then doing the right thing is vital. Exhibiting discipline, speed based on scientific rationality is what is good for the Chinese to learn along the way. The celebrations can still be held but in an orgnised manner.

Many frontliners have soaked up the pressure and sacrificed themselves. How can the authorities not play their part by imposing stricter rules now? Just because a little celebration is important, this importance does not override China's health and exposure to Covid-19 virus. China's leadership must also exhibit restrain in celebrating. Otherwise China's earlier call to "Say No To Waste" is also nothing but an empty call. Without more control over the situation, China's frontliners are made to carry unnecessary weight.

If possible, do screen for COVID-19 before heading home. Self quarantine upon arrival for safety of all concerned.

You will do A GREAT FAVOR for all and yourself!

China will ensure that COVID-19 will be brought under full control through FULL COOPERATION by everyone in China.

This is one very trying battle. Please leave nothing to chance!
