A Henan farmer's offer of 60 acres of free radishes turned into a frenzy when hundreds of thousands of excited consumers swarmed hs farm.

Han Honggang, of Zhengzhou, Henan Province, realized a bumper crop of radishes this year, but because radishes on sale only garner about 0.1 yuan per kilogram, he figured it would hardly be worth the trouble to harvest them all. He thus placed an advertisement online giving away his surplus vegetables, and local media picked up his story and issued a report last Friday.

Following the news being published by local media, hundreds of thousands of people descended onto his farm, plucking not only all the radishes, but also the farmer's sweet potatoes and spinach crops, which were planted nearby. In total, he has suffered losses of 30,000 catty of sweet potatoes and one third of his spinach.

In light of the tremendous loss, internet users lamented on microblogs, saying "The quality of Chinese people is too low!" Do you think the behavior of the people is understandable in an era of skyrocketing food prices?
