The perpetrator is still at large, but even though he is arrested, I doubt whether he will escape without punishment. Standing before the University of International Business and Economics, the relatives of the poor old man look for witnesses and call for a transparent and fair judgement. This is what happened on last Sunday.

(from Global Times)

A man was killed due to a hit-and-run accident in Huixin Dongjie, Chaoyang district Sunday, while the motorcyclist who allegedly hit him fled the scene, an eyewitness said.

The man, in his 50s or 60s, was barely breathing and had low blood pressure when he was sent to the China-Japan Friendship Hospital at 6:30 pm, said Li Jianren, media department director at Beijing Emergency Medical Center.

"There were no obvious external injuries," Li said. The accident was around 6:15 pm, he said, and the man was declared dead at the hospital.

An eyewitness, who only gave his surname as Wang, told the Global Times the suspect was a young foreign man, aged between 18 to 22 and "possibly a student from the nearby University of International Business and Economics."

Wang, who works for the Sinopec Group, asked the culprit "Where are you from?" in English. He could not hear the man in the chaos, Wang said.

"He then made several phone calls, then a group of people who looked Central Asian showed up. He wanted to run away, but was stopped by passersby. When the ambulance came, and people were helping to get the man into the vehicle, the foreigner escaped with his friends," Wang said.

the case like that is nothing to do with nationalities.

if he can be found out definitely he will be punished per China laws.

I think if he is a student which will be easier to dig him out from the school.

This !

But on another note, is it possible that this foreign driver became what he is now -- hit and run -- because he has heard of or seen too many similar incidents in China?

Laws and rules should never see colors of skins; punishments are due when they become due unless of course if the legal and security authorities are flawed with corruptions. How will China and Chinese lawmakers see the case?
