After a long long time of politicking, finally the Pakatan State government starts to do PUBLIC RELATION work on projects of their state governments.

Penang has started the ball rolling again.
It has taken small steps in  "benchmarking".
alas against Seremban and Ipoh instead of rightfully SINGAPORE!

We have been witness to tremendous problems faced by the new State Administration, expecially the GROSS MISMANAGEMENT of the SEBERANG PRAI local government, where that council overspent and didn't manage any improvement.

(On the spot visit, shows that the new government has been active to rebuilt and landscape lot of road stretches. Even the City Centre, with the iconic KOMTAR centre is being refurbished)

The Selangor State government has announced improvement in the state's solid waste management.
It apparently saved a lot of money by doing competitive "open ballot biddings", as much as 2/3 savings! (at least that's what i think i read in the STAR newspaper today)

That probably explains why the state roads now has been resurfaced, with road shoulders rebuilt, and road shoulders landscaped!

The Kelantan government, like the Terengganu government has rightly now pressuring the Federal Government to pay the crude oil royalty belonging to their respective states! A figure of Rmb 2 billion a year is cited, quite a large sum of money, expecially in Kelantan, the state annual revenue must be less than Rmb1 billion!

cheerios!

Finally report filtering through of the work done by the state governments!
It will be a great impact on the state electorates in the next general election, on how well their state government perform in face of adversity.

The Barisan Federal government has their hands full!

It's state administrations has promised the people of Johor on successful ISKANDAR new city. So far on the spot visit show pretty sad state of affairs which seems to lack construction activity. However, many road arteries in the Johor Baru City has been completed, yet many SORE SPOT are left uncompleted, example many abandoned construction project in the city centre and the malls in the outskirts.

The Malacca city centre tourist precinct has been proceeding very well, much kudo's to the Malaccan state government.

The suburban township has been developing very well, with well planned housing, offices and industrial estates well done!

The Federal Government also has been promising their financial STIMULUS measures will revived growth by 3rd quarter 2009 at the earliest. However the many projects promised to the Kuala Lumpur city has yet to start, example the stretches of road in the city centre with broken up sidewalks, absent road furniture. The said "covered walkways" linking the city centres shopping and office has yet to be started.

The people are watching!
They will make their decision with their votes in the next election!

Raising funds creatively seems to be a problem for the Penang state govt.

Strange?

Maybe Federal Government rules or some other impediments!

Local government autonomy election seems to have problems.

Apparently it's blocked by Federal statutes.

The City, Town, District and Village councils has long been made a PATRONAGE vehicle by the political parties.
Some cities, town and districts have large budgets, and many contracts to be given out to party supporters.
In addition, there are profits to be made with ROAD BAZAARs,  common in Malaya.

As such, both Pakatan and Barisan politicians are having second thoughts on providing DIRECT ELECTIONs which gives power to local citizens on this profitable ventures!

Politics is about EFFICIENT GOVERNMENTs.
and the competition created by the REFORMs of ex PM Badawi has created a lot of changes in Malaya even in this recessionary period!

cheerios!

The advantage and disadvantage of SCALE.

We have seen not only in China, but also in Singapore and Malaysia.

The advantage of SCALE.
With scale, Singapore has been able to copy from a URGENT rehousing situation caused by a slum fire and the learnings of the fast rebuilding of the Tangshan city after the earthquake in China.

The disadvantage of SCALE has been the almost MIND NUMBING standardization of building in the so called "Heartlands of Singapore". Eventually this efficiency has been converted to high charges in many government services in comparison to the efficiency of Malaya's more PRESSURED to perform political establishments. (at least, this appears to be true if we forget Singapore's troubles in obtaining basic materials)

A suggestion to both Barisan and Pakatan governments.

Look around the cities in Johor Baru, Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya etc.

There are a few EYE SORE building left uncompleted.
The Government should at least complete or spruce up those buildings.
I have seen projects done by KUWAIT INVESTMENT HOUSE in the city centre, which are completed, beautiful yet not succesfully marketed.
(however, it's not an eyesore, so it does not really matter).
