China's PPI up 0.9%, CPI up 2.5% in April [Copy link] 中文

The consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation, increased by 2.5 percent in April from a year earlier.

The increase was up from 2.3 percent for March.

Food prices climbed 6.1 percent year on year last month, according to the NBS.

Non-food prices gained 1.7 percent, 0.1 percentage points lower than that in March.

On a month-on-month basis, the CPI went up 0.1 percent in March, the NBS said.


China's producer price index (PPI), which measures costs for goods at the factory gate, rose by 0.9 percent year-on-year in April, picking up from a 0.4-percent increase in March, data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed on Thursday.


Every month, the PPI gained 0.3 percent, compared with a 0.1-percent increase in March.

Factory prices of both production materials and consumer goods grew faster in April, both up 0.9 percent.

In breakdown, oil and natural gas exploration climbed 10.1 percent year on year, while processing of oil, coal and other fuel posted an increase of 4.2 percent.
