A man passes a facial recognition machine.

Commuters taking subway Line One in Jinan, East China's Shandong Province, now need only smile (or not) at a new facial recognition system to pass through a turnstile.

The subway system is the first one to install a 3D facial recognition system that allows passengers to automatically pay their fare with only a glance.

The system went into operation in early April and passengers who download the required app can pass through a ticket gate in just two seconds by looking at a camera, according to the Jinan Rail Transit Group.

The system is capable of recognizing a disguise or other tricks and has a failure rate of one in a million, said the transit authority.

The system allows 30 to 40 passengers to pass through the turnstile every minute, greatly improving the pass-through rate of commuters and easing their way to the platform, said a subway employee.(Global Times)

I have issues about this new facial recognition technology that China is installing everywhere. Especially since the PSB has access to every image scanned by the systems, and can use those images to pinpoint anyone's position within China. I have nothing to worry about, personally, but it can be used to track reporters, students, HR activists, etc. It's another way of tracking your location, just like the PSB's records of all SMS messages can be used against you if you chat with a friend, who later gets in trouble.
Stupid people are like Glowsticks. You want to snap them in half and shake the crap out of them until they see the light.
I love sarcasm. It's like punching someone in the head ... only with words

Don't be too quick to embrace facial recognition technology.  Besides the security risk, there is  the risk of losing one's money in the bank through facal recognition. Already there are cases of people losing their bank savings to farudsters using facial recognition; one man was asleep when his photo was taken to access his bank account!
