Boring thread.

This tends to promote lookism. That's why that physically short Chinese teacher is being rejected.

While not classified in the same way as racial, cultural, sexual discrimination, "lookism" is widespread and affects how people are perceived as well as affecting their opportunities in terms of romantic relationships, job opportunities, etc. Physical attractiveness is associated with good things; in contrast, physical unattractiveness is associated with ne

People cannot choose the appearances because it is granted by the parents, but they can choose to be more educated, instead of judging on people's looking.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said, " I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."

I would like to say, " I look to a day when people will not be judged by their looks but the content of their character, their capacity."

I must say....
that's unfair (in a way)
In this day and age, a girl who looks "Hot", WILL make money.
Either by rising to the top of business, because bosses like that.
or by simple prostitution.
Men do not have that same opportunity.
(I wish I was a girl )

In a perfect world....
it would be solely based on merit

There's probably some good research on how attractiveness affects attention and learning.

Do students learn better from good-looking teachers?

Learn - not directly.

But if attendance is not required, then good-looking teachers may increase attendance to classroom, as well as paying attention to the teacher instead of other things. And that can improve learning. But she/he would still need to be a solid teacher and not just pretty decor.
