world poverty map.jpg

According to this map put out by the CIA (go figure).
China has a lower poverty rate than the US.

How did China do this, against the richest country in the World, when China has a larger population and less arable land to utilize?
There must be a lesson here, for the World to note.

Why can't the whole World be "blue"?

The thread is talking about "poverty rate".
Since China has 4 times more people...
it is understoo ...

China does NOT have "4 times more people..." It has four times as many as the U.S.A.

For someone so pedantic as you, you take the mastery of the English language way too unseriously...

You wrote this glaringly wrong statement in your post:

There are less poor Chinese than poor Americans

Yet, the colour of N America and China is the same blue in that map, indicating they both have about 15% poor.

That would mean China has four times as many poor as the U.S.A. does.

The tax cut-off level of 3500 yuan may be the official line but in practice many local authoritie ...
Also, 3500 is a relatively high salary. Many teachers don't make that much. Sometimes they nominally make 4000 but get paid out 3000.

Though I am not informed about teacher salaries where I live (Kunming), I can extrapolate from salaries that I do see posted. For example, a street food stall that I frequent to, a franchise that sells deep fried potatos and tofu, advertises for job vacancies in range 3000 to 4000 RMB a month.

Another good source for local salaries is a dating show that my wife likes to watch on TV, where local singles in 40+ age range look for spouses, and salary of course is one criteria they show.

But I do agree that 3500 seems quite average salary, which I keep wondering about the level of tax exemption.

Sometimes they nominally make 4000 but get paid out 3000.

Exactly, and I am convinced that same happens with poverty rate. I'm certain that there are millions only nominally above the poverty line.

are you color blind????
China blue is darker than America.
or are you just blind to anything pro-C ...

There is nothing the world can learn from China because China has had to learn from the world before it got to where it is now. According to Wikipedia, China had a poverty rate of 88% at the time when it decided to turn away from its rigid command economy.

In other words: China has learnt lessons it should have learnt long before to avert the misery that afflicted its people for decades.

China learnt from the West and it has no lesson to offer it even today. Why? It had a poverty rate of 88% at the time when Deng did away with the rigid comma nd economy and if it is down to a single digit percentage today it is not better off than the West which has never seen such a high poverty rate.
