Over the past year, China has embraced the concept of sharing with shared bikes, shared umbrellas, shared napping capsules, and now, tiny shared fitness centers.

Recently, these miniature workout stations have been popping up by the street side in Beijing, charging fitness enthusiasts just 2 jiao (3 cents) per minute for use of its facilities -- which, admittedly, do seem a bit spartan.

Inside the 4-square-meter pod there is a treadmill, television and some small sports equipment along with air conditioning and an air purifier. Perhaps most importantly, the stalls also come equipped with a fire extinguisher.

Entering these so-called "micro gyms" works much like other innovations of China's sharing economy. Users download an app, pay a 99 yuan deposit and then can scan a QR code on the door for access.

Apparently, you can also pull the blinds down to help you change in privacy... which makes us a tad worried that users might do more than just jog on a treadmill inside these pods.

According to Yicai Global, internet technology startup, Misspao, hopes to roll out 1,000 more of these shared stalls in Beijing by the end of the year. Already, the startup has reportedly secured tens of millions of yuan in funding, apparently boosting its value all the way up to 100 million yuan just two months after launching.

Though, considering the track record of success of other shared concepts in China, perhaps Misspao should consider itself lucky if it makes it through the week without its treadmills being stolen or killing someone.

Why are they 'shared'? Is free to use exercise quipment at the park shared or do you have to pay for ...

And there are so called shared books - You pay some money and you can borrow the books for some time. However, this kind of sharing has already existed for a long time, and you can borrow books for free - the library.

Sharing is fine with me, but have they solved the problem of maintenance and repair for these shared equipments? Or will they just be treated as waste and recyclable material? That will be hell of a way to squander our resources.
