A group of 21 teenagers from Daliang Mountain in southwest China's Sichuan province arrived in Beijing on Monday, kicking off their 5-day summer camp in the capital.
The tour, funded by Beijing Jingcheng Education Group, took the children from Daliang Mountain, along with 22 Beijing peers, to famous historical sites such as the Great Wall and the Forbidden city, visit Beijing Olympic venues and attend the national flag raising ceremony at Tian'anmen Sqaure.
Due to its harsh natural environment,  the children from Daliang Mountain, mainly orphans, live in poverty and could not afford the education. Many cannot even speak Mandarin. The Group's philanthropic activities have brought some changes to the children. After its cooperation with Shell China Volunteer Association and Liangshan Yi Women and Children Development Center, more children will have the chance to attend to the charity school and step out of the deep mountain to see the outside world.
